Lower Limb Exoskeleton Assist Project
About Us
Why LLEAP?
LLEAP will serve as a practical platform for students to immerse themselves in the medtech field, providing hands-on experience and allowing members to apply the theoretical knowledge gained in their engineering courses. Through LLEAP, students will enhance their technical skills, gain valuable insights into the challenges and innovations within the medical technology industry, and foster a collaborative environment for aspiring engineers to experiment, learn, and contribute to advancements in exoskeletal technology.

Over the years
Check out our progress over time
2019-20
LLEAP was founded as a Formal Design Project under EMPOWER to make the quality of life better for an individual who requires assistance walking.

2021-22
First single leg was created but not assembled. Following working online during covid, this was the first time two individual joints were produced: the planetary hip and a custom gear box for the knee. No foot yet.
2022-23
Building upon previous work, we developed our second prototype, incorporating new designs including a linear actuator with the cycloidal hip joint in development.

2023-24
The third prototype is designed and manufactured, incorporating the former cycloidal hip, a new planetary knee and improved structures and linkages
2024-25
Goals for this current year are to complete the full exoskeleton, design and manufacture single legged test fixture and develop double legged test protocol. Furthermore, we plan to begin the R&D phase for our next iteration of the exoskeleton and continue testing our completed suit for functionality
